Why choose therapy

Addiction therapy is a more in-depth process than addiction counselling in that it addresses the underlying causes  behind addictive behaviour.  Addiction counselling is a short term intervention aimed at stabilization to reduce harm.  Therapy takes longer because it focuses on  personal development. It takes courage, trust and time to challenge what may be difficult or painful to face, and it takes commitment and a willingness to change for growth to occur.

Addictive behaviour is a maladaptive  coping mechanism that needs to be replaced with a different set of tools. Therapy can hep you respond to life and stop  reacting to it.

The insanity of addiction is doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different outcome.

Addiction is like an iceberg, and what you see on the surface is only a fraction of what lies below. My approach to working with addiction is founded on connecting with the individual to understand what is going on for them.

I am an integrative therapist and use evidence-based practices drawn from Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive-Behavioural theory to help clients challenge what may be difficult or painful to confront.

Ultimately, therapy is about the relationship between client and practitioner.  Change and growth occur out of a therapeutic relationship that is based on trust and feels safe and supportive for the client. Progress is about moving forward with a new toolkit.
